The Bells Committee of the LDG came into existence in 1983 with the intention of visiting every church in the Diocese and creating a record of all the bells and their condition. The work continues and members of the Committee normally visit a number of churches each year.
In addition to compiling this information the Committee has been involved in a number of augmentations and renovations; in fact a number of rings have received attention following our visit to an individual church and persuading the relevant authority of the need to `do something`.
The Committee has a good working relationship with both the Diocese and the Bells Advisor to the Diocesan Advisory Committee which has resulted in both the movement and acquiring of bells over the last forty years.
On those occasions where we find small problems requiring attention our members try to rectify the situation.
Any member of the Guild is extremely welcome to join us on any of our visits or consult us for advice in connection with any problems affecting their bells, renovation or augmentation.
